Hearty cabbage breaks down in no time when you cook it in the microwave. Pair the tender, wilted leaves with your choice of seasonings and add-ins to turn this otherwise mild cruciferous veggie into a flavor-packed side.

Select your microwave wattage in the dropdown. The cook times in this recipe will automatically change accordingly.

To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time. 

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.


Cook Times

(Thinly Sliced Cabbage)

2 cups (160g) 2-3 mins
3 cups (240g) 3-4 mins
4 cups (320g) 4-5 mins


  1. Thinly slice the cabbage and rinse. Place in an Anyday dish and cover with the lid (knob lifted).
  2. Cook in the microwave for the time listed in the table, or until cabbage has slightly wilted and is fork-tender.

Cooking Tips

  • The leftover moisture after rinsing helps the cabbage steam. 
  • For the most even cooking, stir halfway through the cook time.
  • Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper for a quick side dish.
